2014 12 26 – Big Eyes, Into the Woods, The Gambler, Unbroken
This holiday weekend we have four openings.
-----------------------------------------------
IT WOULD BE MEGA COOL, IF AMY ADAMS LANDED A ROLE IN THE NEXT RESIDENT EVIL INSTALLMENT -- AS A CO-LEAD TO MILLA JOVOVICH
This movie, Big Eyes, is a drama PG-13 movie, from Weinstein.
Life is about growth. About change. Experiencing different situations, with different people, with different outcomes. Putting oneself out of a comfort zone. Discovering hidden talents and strengths. We all know Amy Adams is a sweet person, who stands firm even in the face of Superman.
But what is Amy Adams like, I mean -- really like? I sense from her a strong feeling of being framed, living in one and the same picture. Repeating the same thing over and over and over. Ms. Adams, it's time to change. Just like you said no to your husband in this movie (I assume), you need to say no to another sweet Jane role. It's time to kick some zombie asses.
Shots:
$ 8 mln -- Gitesh Pandya, BoxOfficeGuru
$ 7,5 mln -- Mitch Metcalf, ShowBuzzDaily
$ 5 mln -- Box Office team
$ 4,8 mln -- Edward Douglas, ComingSoon
Ray Subers, of BoxOfficeMojo, ThisIsNotMyName, of BoxOfficePredictionsOnline, didn't post a shot for this movie.
Glenn Walker, stepping in for Andy Burns, of BiffBamPop, this weekend, didn't post a shot for this movie.
-----------------------------------------------
I'M BUYING THIS IDEA, ONLY IF IT'S THE NEXT ITERATION OF TV SHOWS FEATURING SINGING STARS
This movie, Into the Woods, is a musical PG movie, from Disney.
It's much better than Idol or any other singing TV show. This is the proof that putting even a tiny piece of storytelling may transform a collection of silly attempts into watchable 90 minutes of popcorn entertainment.
The same applies for dancing shows -- stars should train for an actual performance, not just pointlessly polish dance rooms' floors.

I UNDERSTAND GETTING JESSE EISENBERG FOR THE LEAD WAS TOO EXPENSIVE, BUT MARK WAHLBERG PROBABLY SPENT THE EXACT DIFFERENCE GETTING AWAY OF HIS MUSCLES
This movie, The Gambler, is a drama R movie, from Paramount.
As a character, Wahlberg's guy doesn't punch anybody too hard, sits at the bus stop with a bunch of olderly ladies, then whines about his totally harmless addiction to sitting in casinos with his hands on the table. If you don't see anything interesting in it, you are probably smarter than any movie producer that funded this movie. Good luck getting DVDs of this movie out of shops' shelves.

TONY STARK IS THE GREATEST PERSONIFICATION OF THE PHOENIX METAPHOR, SO PLEASE, STOP DOING SIMILAR MOVIES
This movie, Unbroken, is a drama PG-13 movie, from Universal.
A great guy gets captured. He survives imprisonment. He comes out as a hero.
We got this in the Iron Man trilogy.
Move on, Hollywood. WWII is getting boring.
Beside, if this movie does good in theaters, it will be a slight insult to Brad Pitt, because his war Fury came a bit short in terms of box office money.

2014 12 19 – Annie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
This weekend we have three openings.
-----------------------------------------------
A TRULY CHRISTMAS MIRACLE -- JAMIE FOXX TURNED INTO A HOTTIE BY A BLACK SUIT
This movie, Annie, is a musical PG movie, from Sony.
This is a truly holiday-spirited movie, but its demographic is messy. Kids will probably rather watch bone dinosaurs (it's not a pun about viagra-fueled Hugh Hefner) and pissing monkeys. Grown-ups may be attracted to Jamie Foxx' sleak persona, but campy songs and big hair of the lead Annie may be too much to cope with.

ROBIN WILLIAMS AND A BUNCH OF MISCAST PEOPLE
This movie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, is an adventure PG movie, from Fox.
I didn't see any of this movie. I didn't dig Ben Stiller. But it looks like a fun holiday movie, there are fart/pissing jokes that amuse all 7-year-youngs, and it's the final movie of Robin Williams. That should drive people, in spite of eve of holiday preparations.

THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE MOVED OUT OF THEATERS, AS ORCS ARE PRIMITIVES THAT COME FROM THE NORTH
This movie, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, is an adventure PG-13 movie, from Warner Bros.
To be completely honest, I think this will make an amount of money close to what An Unexpected Journey brought. People want to see it, check their movie to-do lists, then forget about it. Or back into LOTR. I know I do. Minus the seeing the movie in a theater part. I don't. I've not seen any of The Hobbit on a big screen. Plus, I'm scared of pissed Orcs' hack attack.

2014 12 05 – no openings in 1000+ theaters
Experts say this is the worst weekend of all year, so no one dares to open with a new movie.
Yet, people go to theaters, pay ticket, buy popcorn, see movies, have a great time.
In 2010 on the first weekend of December there was a movie that opened with $ 8,000+ per theater: Black Swan. It means it can be done, if only Hollywood execs see people, not just numbers.
See you next week!
