2014 10 24 – John Wick, Ouija

Movies of this October were passable. Even Fury, I believed a surefire hit, dropped its game hard. I've found typical movies a bit boring, compared to superhero flicks. I suppose the reason is big studios lost an ability to tell compelling stories about human condition. If everything is in flux, how can a movie take a solid stance on anything?

This weekend we have two openings.

MONDAY: Official numbers!

2014 10 10 – Addicted, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Dracula Untold, One Chance, The Judge

This weekend BoxOfficeMojo disappeared from the Internet. It looks like movie sites slowly turn away from box office predictions. I know it's no mass entertainment, but I'd suppose in US there are enough people interested in writing about movies and finance.

This weekend we have four openings.

2014 10 03 – Annabelle, Gone Girl, Left Behind

Did I write last weekend that last-last weekend was good for all shooters? Well, the last weekend was even better! October will be tough, though, because there are a few dramas. They are always tricky to predict.

This weekend we have three openings.

FRIDAY: All shots!

MONDAY: Official numbers!

-----------------------------------------------

IF A SOURCE OF HORROR BECOMES KNOWN, IT LOSES HALF OF ITS IMPACT

This movie, Annabelle, is an horror R movie, from Warner Bros.

This movie opens in 3185 theaters. It is a big number for an horror R. The Conjuring, its box office predecessor, opened in 2903 theaters. Surely, Warner puts some dollars up front, but still this is an owner's decision to get a copy of the movie for showing, instead of keeping a copy of The Equalizer, The Maze Runner, No Good Deed, for one more week.

The Conjuring opened with $ 14,418 per theater. If Annabelle pulls 30 per cent less, it means $ 10,000 opening. That's a very good accomplishment.

Shots:

$ 37,13 mln  --  the official weekend number of the movie  (3185 theaters, $ 11,659 per theater)
-----------------------------------------------
$ 32,17 mln  --  Mario Ludwinski, USBOPredictions2014  (3185 theaters, $ 10,100 per theater)
$ 29,4 mln  --  Edward Douglas, ComingSoon
$ 29 mln  --  Ray Subers, BoxOfficeMojo
$ 27 mln  --  Box Office team
$ 27 mln  --  Mitch Metcalf, ShowBuzzDaily
$ 26 mln  --  C.S. Strowbridge, The-Numbers
$ 25 mln  --  Andy Burns, BiffBamPop
$ 24 mln  --  Laremy Legel, RopeOfSilicon
$ 22 mln  --  Gitesh Pandya, BoxOfficeGuru
$ 16 mln  --  ThisIsNotMyName, BoxOfficePredictionsOnline

SaberToothDragon, BoxOfficeFrontier, didn't shoot for this one.

THANK GOD, NOW WE CAN EVERYTHING STORE IN CLOUD, SO NOTHING WILL BE EVER... GONE

This movie, Gone Girl, is a thriller R movie, from Fox.

I don't know. The movie seems okay, tension and drama ooze from a strong source. Still, it doesn't feel pulling that much. From the trailer it seems a lot of things are told in flashbacks. It's understandable from the script point of view, it's a great tension building tool for thriller movies. But is it a memorable movie? A discussions' fueling movie? Not really. It's a good one-shot entertainment, that's it.

Shots:

$ 40 mln  --  Ray Subers, BoxOfficeMojo
$ 37,51 mln  --  the official weekend number of the movie  (3014 theaters, $ 12,446 per theater)
$ 36,5 mln  --  Edward Douglas, ComingSoon
$ 35 mln  --  Andy Burns, BiffBamPop
-----------------------------------------------
$ 33 mln  --  C.S. Strowbridge, The-Numbers
$ 31,5 mln  --  Mitch Metcalf, ShowBuzzDaily
$ 31 mln  --  Box Office team
$ 30 mln  --  ThisIsNotMyName, BoxOfficePredictionsOnline
$ 28,1 mln  --  Mario Ludwinski, USBOPredictions2014  (3014 theaters, $ 9322 per theater)
$ 27 mln  --  Gitesh Pandya, BoxOfficeGuru
$ 27 mln  --  Laremy Legel, RopeOfSilicon
$ 24 mln  --  SaberToothDragon, BoxOfficeFrontier

I LMAO-D WHEN I IMAGINED THE CASTING FOR THIS MOVIE:
-- PLEASE, MAKE THE MOST AWKWARD FACE YOU CAN THINK OF. WOW, MR CAGE, THAT'S TERRIFIC.
--  THANKS, BUT I AIN'T STARTED YET...

This movie, Left Behind, is a thriller PG-13 movie, from Freestyle Releasing.

Based on the headline above, I give this movie $ 2333 per theater. I feel quite generous.

Shots:

$ 8 mln  --  Laremy Legel, RopeOfSilicon
$ 7 mln  --  Box Office team

$ 6,3 mln  --  the official weekend number of the movie  (1825 theaters, $ 3452 per theater)
$ 6 mln  --  Mitch Metcalf, ShowBuzzDaily

$ 5 mln  --  C.S. Strowbridge, The-Numbers

$ 4,26 mln  --  Mario Ludwinski, USBOPredictions2014  (1825 theaters, $ 2333 per theater)
$ 4 mln  --  Ray Subers, BoxOfficeMojo
