This weekend we have two openings.
MONDAY: Official numbers!
ASHLEY JUDD SHOULDN'T MAKE HERSELF LOOK OLDER THAN HER 46 YEARS
This movie, Dolphin Tale 2, is a drama PG movie, from Warner Bros.
Dolphins are the most charming movie animals, because in reality they are cute the same. They swim, look like they are smiling, they chat with those funny sounds. Other contenders differ in real life. Penguins (not necessarily from Madagascar) are not scheming grand plans of a world take-over. Lions (all, not just royal bloods) don't raise their youngsters to the sun.
In such movies, people characters come off as wooden, ungraceful, uninteresting.
This time, however, landfeeters are represented by Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. Good for us, erect mammals. Those actors always look nice, that is why I think this movie will earn some honest money. Not big, but honest.

IDRIS ELBA IS GOING TO BE A NEXT WILL SMITH OF A NEXT DENZEL WASHINGTON
This movie, No Good Deed, is a thriller PG-13 movie, from Sony.
From both parts of Thor, we know Idris Elba can play noble and not talking much characters. He learnt how to gaze in a distance. He acquired knowledge how to crack a smile in the corner of his lips.
But to successfully turn himself into THE African-American movie go-to guy, he needs to widen his palette of emotions and actions. This time he practises a violent man, hulking over a not-particularly-defenseless woman. For his career, it is a good move. For audience looking for a solid (and surprising, because it is a thriller movie) entertainment, probably not so much.
He still gazes into a distance, though.
As for my shot, the movie is distributed in 2175 theaters only. This is the clearest of clear indicators of low box office weekend.
